There is nothing broken in MTool's Var page. I connected to your running game and a test value written from MTool was received by the game immediately, so the edits do reach the game.

What I found in this game:
• Some numbers are recalculated by the game itself. When I set two of them, the game replaced my values with its own computed ones a few seconds later, so manual edits to those do not stay.
• The number next to I-kun on the skill screen (the 18) is the skill-point total that this game keeps inside its own skill system, not one of the numbered variables — changing a variable cannot change it.

What you can do:

1. Change the value in the Var page, then close and reopen the game's menu. A menu that is already open does not redraw, so it will keep showing the old number.
2. If a row already has the Lock box ticked (variables 5 and 6 in your screenshot are locked), untick it first, enter the new value, and only then tick Lock again — while it is locked MTool keeps writing the old value back, which also makes edits look pointless.
3. For skill points and other values kept in the game's own systems, the Var page cannot change them; that is how the game is built, not an MTool fault.

If one specific value still does not change after this, write below which variable number you edit and which screen shows the old number (a screenshot helps) and I will look again.
